Your Toronto Zoo is excited to welcome buses and passengers travelling on the new Durham Region Transit (DRT) bus route, providing service directly to the Zoo until September 6, 2021. DRT implemented a series of service enhancements to support access to public transit as the province continues to re-open; and residents begin to return to work, shopping and more. A few of their summer service highlights include new routes, improved access to key employment areas, parks and green spaces, and local attractions, such as your Toronto Zoo.
“This first-ever Durham Region Transit service is part of the Zoo’s commitment to expand transit options for our guests to visit their Zoo easily, with a variety of transit options,” said Dolf DeJong, Toronto Zoo CEO. “With your Toronto Zoo being on the doorstep of Durham Region, providing accessibility to Durham guests is a priority at our Zoo. Our mission is to connect people, animals and conservation science to fight extinction and this new partnership with Durham Region Transit will help us reach wider audiences to inspire guests with our animals and their critical conservation stories,” he added.
“We are pleased to welcome customers back to DRT where they can take advantage of enhanced services and access to key destinations, including the Toronto Zoo,” said Bill Holmes, General Manager, DRT. “This partnership provides residents and their families with the opportunity to enjoy all that the Toronto Zoo has to offer, with our safe, reliable and cost-effective Route 917Z. We’re pleased to be able to connect residents with exciting travel destinations and support opportunities to learn about animal conservation at the Zoo.”
The service will run until September 6, 2021, allowing customers to take DRT Route 917Z directly to the Toronto Zoo. New route 917Z gets you to the Toronto Zoo on weekends and holidays, from 10:00 to 22:00 (21:00 on Sundays and holidays). Major stops and terminals served by Route 917Z include, Oshawa Centre Terminal, Whitby Station, Ajax Station, Pickering Parkway Terminal, and Kingston Road and Whites Road.
