WHITBY, ON – Durham Region Transit (DRT) wants you to celebrate safely this New Year’s Eve: on Tuesday, Dec. 31, after 8 p.m., residents and visitors to the Region can ride all DRT services for free! DRT is offering extended service, including late night shuttles from GO Stations, until 3 a.m.
“At DRT safety is always paramount,” says Bill Holmes, General Manager of DRT. “During the festive season and on New Year’s Eve, we want everyone to make the right choice. When out celebrating, have a designated driver or use DRT so everyone on the roads gets home safely.”
DRT’s free and extended service on New Year’s Eve is made possible in part by generous support from the Durham Regional Police Services Board and Ontario Power Generation.
“The Durham Regional Police Services Board is proud to support free New Year’s Eve service with DRT again this year,” says Kevin Ashe, Chair of the Durham Regional Police Services Board. “This initiative promotes safety and responsibility, but not at the expense of a good time. Free transit service will reduce the likelihood of impaired driving in our community and the Board endorses this program with enthusiasm.”
