Specialized Services application

Before completing an application, please make sure that you meet eligibility criteria to see if you qualify for Specialized Services. To be considered for Specialized Services, the “Specialized Services Application and Information Package Application” must be fully completed and submitted to the Eligibility Office.

Specialized Services will review applications within 14 days of receiving completed applications. Incomplete applications will be returned to the applicant. DRT will confirm eligibility by mail.

Applicants may be required to attend an in-person interview or assessment at the Specialized Services office located at 110 Westney Road South, Ajax, Ontario.

Appealing Specialized Services eligibility

If your application for Specialized Services is denied based on eligibility, you can appeal the decision using the Specialized Services appeal form below. The primary responsibility of the Eligibility Appeal Process is to ensure the proper matching of transit service with the abilities of those appealing.

Your appeal must be submitted within 30 days after being notified of DRT's initial eligibility decision.

Appealing

Your appeal application must be received within 30 days after receipt of DRT's initial eligibility decision. Your appeal must be based on your original application and supplemented, if required, with additional medical information. Where required, an independent assessment by an occupational therapist will be arranged by DRT.

Next steps

You will be notified of the date and time of your appeal hearing. The hearing will be held within 30 days after the receipt of your appeal application. The appeal panel is comprised of three members: an Occupational Therapist, a DRT scheduled transit professional and a representative of the community with a disability who uses DRT scheduled transit services. The decisions of the appeal panel are final; the hearing and decision are confidential.
