OSHAWA, ON – Earlier today, Durham Region Transit (DRT) welcomed The Honourable Steven Del Duca, Minister of Transportation; Roger Anderson, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer, The Regional Municipality of Durham; and Mayor John Henry, City of Oshawa to the official opening of DRT’s new Raleigh Maintenance Facility.
DRT’s new Raleigh Maintenance Facility represents a 53-year leap forward for its Maintenance Team as it replaces the original maintenance area that was constructed in 1964. The new, modern building is on track to attain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification, spans 5,770 square metres and has the capacity to maintain and service more than 85 buses. The total cost of the new facility is approximately $26 million.
Proper maintenance is a critical component to ensure that DRT’s fleet continues to operate safely and reliably throughout the Region.
DRT’s new Raleigh Maintenance Facility is an essential piece of the Region’s Highway 2 Bus Rapid Transit project that is funded by the Government of Ontario.
