WHITBY, ON (April 23, 2018) – Durham Region Transit (DRT) is taking steps to further increase ridership in 2018. In addition to continuing to improve the Region’s transit network, DRT is implementing exciting ridership growth initiatives, which include freezing most fares and piloting two new summer youth and family-focused fare incentives.
This year’s nearly 11,000 hours of service enhancements include:
- Increased bus service on DRT’s High-Frequency Network.
- New bus service in growth areas.
- Peak-period and weekend capacity increases on the busiest bus routes.
- Additional service on weekends to and from commercial and employment areas.
With the exception of the ADULT single-trip category (PRESTO tap and paper tickets – each going up by a nickel), DRT fares remain unchanged for 2018. PRESTO is the easiest and most convenient way for customers to pay. And new this year, PRESTO is coming to all Shoppers Drug Mart locations across the Region. With 17 stores already up and running, PRESTO rollout is expected to be complete by the fall. For details and locations, please visit PRESTOCard.ca.
Two new exciting DRT ridership growth initiatives are coming this summer:
1. Load a July Youth monthly pass on a PRESTO card and get August on us! This youth-focused
2-4-1 promotion will offer customers, aged 13 to 19, two monthly passes for the price of one.
2. On weekends, during July and August, children 12 and under will ride for free when travelling with an adult holding a monthly pass.
