WHITBY, ON – On Sept. 4, 2017, improvements will come into effect on several Durham Region Transit (DRT) routes, including the highly-anticipated launch of DRT High Frequency and DRT On Demand, service increases, various enhancements approved by Regional Council, and resumption of full-service for back-to-school customers. The September improvements will ensure that DRT continues to make life easy for existing customers and remain an attractive travel option for new customers. In the lead up to the Sept. 4 service improvements, all customers are reminded to check their route and schedule.
DRT High Frequency:
DRT’s network of high frequency routes operates along the Region’s main-travel corridors in the lakeshore municipalities. This September, the following routes will operate:
30 minutes or better, all day – seven days a week
- PULSE 900 Highway 2
- 401 Simcoe
30 minutes or better, until 19:00 – seven days a week
- 224 Harwood-Salem
- 302 Brock-Baldwin
- 915 Taunton
- 916 Rossland
Service Increases and Enhancements:
Route 916 to resume regular routing, with the construction detour deferred to Spring 2018.
Route 910 Campus Connect will see weekday peak-period service increase to every 15 minutes from 30 minutes.
Route 120 Sunday service increases to every 30 minutes from 60 minutes.
*New* Route 420 will connect Britannia West to the UOIT/DC North Campus Terminal during weekday peak periods.
Additional capacity to support demand on Routes 401 Simcoe and 915 Taunton.
North Durham – DRT On Demand
Route 601 first and last trips will now serve Sunderland.
*New* Route 603 will connect Uxbridge to Pickering via Brock Road, Monday to Friday.
*New* On Demand services launch across Brock, Scugog, and Uxbridge.
- Residents outside the reach of conventional services in Scugog and Uxbridge will be able to connect to the urban centres of Uxbridge and Port Perry.
- New links between Beaverton and Orillia, and between Cannington and Lindsay.
Route 950 Saturday service, launched on July 8, to continue to provide transit options between Uxbridge, Scugog, and North Oshawa.
September Means Back to School:
Full service reinstated on PULSE 900 Highway 2, Route 915 Taunton, and other select trips to ensure that capacity is available as the summer season comes to an end and customers return to work and school.
2017 Service Changes were communicated at each of the 14 DRT Public Information Centres (PIC), which were held across Durham Region throughout March and April. In addition to the PICs, DRT uses feedback from customers, operators, field observations, data analysis, as well as partner transit agencies to continuously enhance services.
