Whitby, Ontario – Members of the Transit Executive Committee (TEC) met virtually on December 8, 2021 to discuss various Durham Region Transit (DRT) initiatives and updates. Details and highlights include:
- Upcoming service changes: Service changes came into effect on December 6, 2021, including route modifications. Further adjustments will be made effective January 10, 2022. Riders are encouraged to stay up to date with schedules by visiting DurhamRegionTransit.com, using the Transit and DRT On Demand apps or by calling 1-866-247-0055.
- U-Pass extension: TEC recommended extending the existing U-Pass agreement with Durham College, Ontario Tech University and Trent University (Durham Campus) through the 2022-2023 academic year. This extension will be confirmed upon Finance & Administration Committee and Regional Council approval.
- Zero fare transit follow up: At the May 5, 2021 meeting, TEC requested information on the potential budget impacts of zero fare transit. It was reported that zero fare transit would pose significant financial risk to DRT and the Region, resulting in substantial budget pressure to maintain levels of service.
- Ridership growth through service investment: This staff report highlighted potential ridership growth based on various levels of investment in revenue service.
